The best game at the World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships 2012

Although not the fastest, most exciting, or most important game from the Worlds this year, I think it’s the best.

The game has character, narrative and skill. The Guardians and Clobber Politics’ different personalities and styles make for a classic sporting match-up. But ultimately, The Guardians’ patience and composure wins out.

The Guardians play a low-tempo game, retaining energy for the rest of the tournament. There are positive knock-on effects from this confident strategy: it gives you time to become acclimatised to the often alien courts and it leaves your team in a slightly deeper position that absorbs attacking play and creates counter-attacking opportunities.

Great goals by Cody, too.

CMD WHBPC 2012 Champions

Our good friends Call me Daddy from France, have just added to their recent European Bike Polo Champions title by now becoming the World Champions too.

They beat The Guardian’s from Seattle, 4-2 in a 15 minute final, held in Geneva.

Well done guys!

Also a massive big up to The Guardians for finishing 2nd best and entertaining all weekend with clean and stylish bike polo – great to see.

Clobber Polotics from Chicago took 3rd and Dead Rappers, our home town friends, took a very respectable 4th.

WHBPC 2012 Courts

Here’s a picture showing the location for this years World Champs being held in Geneva.

It’s actually the same location as to where the Euro Champs back in 2010 was hosted. However, this year the courts are set be better made (wooden side walls), a lot larger and surrounded with more grand stand seating – can’t wait!

Seeing this picture does bring back so many amazing memories of the Euro’s 2010. It really was the first time the Euro scene felt like it came together.

Cosmic3 finished 2nd that year, after an epic 30 minute final losing 5-4 to L’Equipe, played out on the court shown furthest to the right in this picture.

If the Worlds this year can exceed the Euro’s of 2010, we are in for an amazing tournament.

The big ones!

The dates are now officially set for the two biggest tournaments in the bike polo calendar;

European Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships – to be held in Paris, France – 19-21/07/2012

World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships – to be held in Geneva, Switzerland – 14-18/08/2012

The UK qualification tournament for the European Champs will be held in London during the weekend of 03/06/2012. The top 7 ranking teams will gain entry into the Euro’s.

From the European Champs, the top 16 ranking teams will gain entry into the World Champs.

Now we just have to focus on “keeping it cosmic” all the way to Geneva!

We hope you’ll follow our journey this summer.
