The Bloods

Back in March, Manchester Bike Polo organised a weekend tournament called; The North South Divider Invitational.

The invited team list comprised of six from the North of UK and 6 from the South. However, the format was slightly different to that of a regular tournament. In addition to the 12 teams playing each other in a swiss rounds / double elim tournament, the six teams from each area then came together to form two Bench Minor teams, thus giving one North vs South Bench Minor game.

Todd and Rupert both attended and formed a team called; The Bloods, with Adam aka Badger from Spring Break. They finished 3rd in the individual team tournament.

Here are videos courtesy of 5G Bike Polo showing The Bloods games against Sandbaggers (finished 2nd) and Cherry Pickers (finished 1st).

As for the Bench Minor, South went onto beat North.

An interesting tournament and another example of the Bench Minor format coming into practice.

“Why do you play bike polo?!”

I think we’re all familiar with this question; Rouen’s Epiphanie tournament is the answer.

Every January, after a tough summer tournament-season, fires are rekindled with a heart-warming trip to the beautiful, cobbled town of northern France. Gifts are shared and a few games of polo are played, but mostly it’s an opportunity to catch up with buddies and shoot the shit.

Josh made this video which captures the atmosphere perfectly.

Rouen, we love you!

The best game at the World Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships 2012

Although not the fastest, most exciting, or most important game from the Worlds this year, I think it’s the best.

The game has character, narrative and skill. The Guardians and Clobber Politics’ different personalities and styles make for a classic sporting match-up. But ultimately, The Guardians’ patience and composure wins out.

The Guardians play a low-tempo game, retaining energy for the rest of the tournament. There are positive knock-on effects from this confident strategy: it gives you time to become acclimatised to the often alien courts and it leaves your team in a slightly deeper position that absorbs attacking play and creates counter-attacking opportunities.

Great goals by Cody, too.
